Loving yourself is really effin hard, I get it. It’s especially difficult when this world is filled with so many judgmental people and unachievable physical characteristics. But if you learn how to love yourself, you’ll open up an entirely new world filled with positivity and great opportunities.
There are a few reasons why you should learn how to love yourself. The main one is confidence. Who wouldn’t enjoy a good confidence boost? The right amount of confidence can bring out the best in people. Confidence makes you feel…refreshed.
In my 26 years of living, I have witnessed people who have loved themselves wholeheartedly and sadly, hated themselves. Life is tough, but we have to make the best of it.
Need a few tips on how to love yourself? Find 4 tips below, and be the that person you’ve always wanted to be in 2018!
Admire what you like about yourself
Trust me, I have looked in the mirror plenty of times and thought, “What the heck is this! My hair. My skin! Jesus.”
You know what I have learned to do? I started thinking about characteristics I like about myself. I may have a few pimples, but I love that I have a strong personality. This hair isn’t as thick as I’d like it to be, but I’m great at prioritizing my time. There has to be something you love about yourself, I know it.
Forgive your past
We’ve all made mistakes… I have made plenty. The key to forgiving yourself for your past is by learning from your mistakes. Learn and move forward. Life is too short to be stuck in the past. Think about a few things you’ve learned from that negative situation and use that knowledge for the future.
Accept where you currently stand in life
There are plenty of reasons I could think of on why I am unhappy with where I stand in life, but that’s not fair to me.
The present moment isn’t free of the burdens, memories and wounds of the past. They must be attended to before you can look around, breathe easily and love the moment you are in right now. A good beginning is to catch yourself when you have a bad memory and say, “I am not that person anymore.”
Focus on the relationships that make you feel good
Have you ever been told, “You are who you surround yourself with”? It is so important to surround yourself with positive people! When you surround yourself with negative people, they will bring you down. Misery loves company.
Be that happy person your friends want to spend time with. If you focus on the relationships that are the most meaningful in your life, you will learn so much more about yourself.
For every bad thing you think about yourself, always rebuttal with the good. It’s in there somewhere—I know it!
It’s never too late to learn how to love yourself. It’s a pretty bold statement, but when you put yourself first, you’ll be able to take on the world with a smile.
